HISTORY

“Consorcio para el Dialogo Parlamentario y la Equidad Oaxaca, AC” is a women’s organization, which works in Oaxaca, Mexico for indigenous and mestizo women, for the promotion, defense and dissemination of women’s rights as well as gender equality. We are convinced that this is the prerequisite for a democratic, just and non-violent society.
The organization was founded in Mexico City in 1998 with the aim to influence policy and legislation in favor of women, to give women their rights and actively participate in social movements.

In 2003, in Oaxaca – southern Mexico- identificated with the same goals, a second point was established. The focus, however, was directed to the lobby working on the promotion of women in one of Oaxaca’s indigenous regions.

OBJECTIVES AND HEADERS

The Consorcio Oaxaca’s mission is to promote the recognition of women as full citizens, to promote the development of a just, pluralistic society and to strengthen the rule of law. This is followed by:

    The construction of a participating citizenship in favor of democracy and justice.
    Participation in various networks of the feminist movement, and the promotion of alliances between civil society organizations to advocate for the respect of human rights and to stop violence against women.
    Promoting organizational and leadership skills of women of indigenous and mestizo origin in rural and urban areas so that they can defend their rights, to counter violence against women and actively participate in decision-making in the private and public space.

ACTIONS

    Publish and disseminate reports on local, national and international level on women’s rights violations.
    Monitoring of policy decisions and legislative jurisdiction in the issue of women’s rights.
    Addiction and promote dialogue with local, state and federal authorities to act in legislation and in social policy in favor of equality.
    Seeks to influence through publicity in the local press and community radio, public opinion in favor of equality for the sexes.
    Actively working in civilian networks, such as the Colectivo Huaxyacac ​​(a feminist collective of Oaxaca) and the Espacio de Organizaciones Civiles de Oaxaca (Oaxaca association of civil society organizations)
    Provides training opportunities for women leaders.
    Accompanied and supported the establishment of local and regional networks of indigenous and mestizo women in rural and urban areas, for the defense of their rights.
    Provides legal assistance and counseling to women, who suffered violence and documented emblematic cases.
    Published on documents on women’s rights and gender equality and organizes information campaigns to raise awareness of the company.
